As a web developer I am always testing everything I build in as many browsers as I can in order to reach as many people as I can while keeping the design and functionality of my site intact. So when Google launch their browser I wasn’t really that thrilled to be honest. I was and still am more of a Firefox user then any other browser. I will say that with each release of Chrome I want to give it a shot. And when reading about a 30% increase in speed while browsing I have to wonder if I should try using it instead of just testing to make sure my sites work in it. Still on the fence but for those interested, a new beta release dropped on the 5th and you can read about it here>>.
I can remember when suckerfish had posted the CSS dropdown nav. I can remember using javascript and tables to make my first dropdown nav. I thought if we could only get CSS working in all broswers this would be perfect. I eventually started using an variation with a javascript workaround for IE6. I’m always on the lookout for an open source alternative for pretty much everything. After being involved in the Open Source community since 94 I have the upmost respect for those that develop the software that as web developers use everyday. I also love the fact that I can give back to the community and I strive to do so when I can. That being said, I stumbled accros a great screen cast that shows off Magento e-commerce. I hadn’t tried Magento yet but after reading up on it and watching this I think I’ll give it a run through. Check out the screen cast here: http://net.tutsplus.com/videos/screencasts/easy-e-commerce-with-magento/ I’m a Firefox guy but I have to hand it to Opera and their new Unite feature. Good read for those of us that keep up with the Browser Wars. |
